F3J with Winches
August 2-3, 2003
Farragut State Park
-
Pilot's meeting: 10:00 Saturday. You
need to be there and registered before the pilot's meeting. Once everyone
is registered, the matrix will be made up. Once the matrix is made up there
will be no new additions. So be there on time. You will be assigned a
group to fly, a group to time, and a group to retrieve lines. That way it
works smooth and everyone shares the load.
-
Tasks: 10 (or possibly 8) minute Man on Man
precision duration, spot landing. Flight groups in the F3J matrix format.
Five or more in each group. One minute launch window; 10 (or 8) minute
flight window. Scored flight time starts at the beginning of flight window
or when released from tow, whichever is later. One launch per round.
-
Aircraft: You may enter two models of your
choice, both must be on the same frequency. Fly your choice of model each
round.
-
Flight Groups: Flight Groups will be
established in a matrix format. We will do the best we can to match
different pilots each round. Flight groups will be posted.
-
Launch Equipment: Typical AMA style winches
w/brake, braided nylon line 750'.
-
Launch Rules: A four minute preparation
window will be announced, then a launch countdown will be broadcast. Launch
any time within the one minute window. (the extended launch window is to
reduce the risk of collisions on tow) If you pop-off or break a tow line,
you can relaunch, but the window keeps counting down.
-
Flight Window: A countdown and tone will
announce the beginning of the ten (or 8) minute flight window. If you are
already launched, your time starts at the signal. If you are not yet
launched, or off the tow, your time starts when you release from tow. A
countdown and a tone will announce a two minute warning. The end of the ten
(or 8) minute flight window will also be by a countdown and a tone.
-
Scoring: One point per second duration plus
landing, normalized to 1000 points per round. One throw out per day if a
minimum of 5 rounds is completed per day. (we usually get 6 rounds per day
in) Over flying the flight window = minus 30 points. (landing still counts)
-
Landing: 25 foot circle, 5 points per 15
inches (modified AMA tape). Landings count regardless of overtime penalty.
Stand where ever you want in relation to your spot, but landing approach
must be from the designated direction. Aircraft contacting any person (you,
your timer, or any one else) will result in a zero landing score. Inverted
landings count in F3J.
-
Skegs: Non-metallic skids and skegs are ok.
-
No Fly Off! Lots of rounds! Lots of fun!
Everybody flies!
-
Barbecue lunch $3. Potluck dinner on
Saturday evening. Last round on Sunday will be the round we are in at 2:00.
-
Prizes: Trophies for first through fourth
in both expert and competitor class.
