Paradise Flying Field

Description

Newly opened for RC flying, 22 acres of slightly rolling grassland. The Paradise Flying Field is a multi-use site including launch lines for flat land, thermal soaring and a grass runway for electrics.  The field is mowed grass with a large flying area.  The nearby fields provide thermal convection sources.  When the club gets together for informal flying, this is where we tend to go (unless the wind is too high and from the right direction, then we go to the slope site).

Directions:

From I-90 take Hwy 195 (exit 279, to Colfax).  Travel 10 miles to Paradise Road. Turn right on Paradise Road and the field is on your left. Follow the drive back to the parking area. There is no sign, but if you're there to fly, chances are you'll locate the field by the presence of other flyers.

Hazards

Do not fly over the highway. Do not fly over the farmhouse directly south, it spooks their horses.

Facilities

There is a porta potty on the field, but that's it.  When the weather is cooperating, you can often find club members at the field and a winch set up.

Current Conditions (updated 4/7/2010)

Grass is just starting to grow. Expect to get your plane dirty. The mole mounds are minimal in the operating areas.  Alfalfa clumps are minimal short. Field is best suited to models without gear (sailplanes, Strykers, etc.) If your model has large wheels, take off and landing on the grass is possible. Otherwise plan on a hand launch and nose over on landing. There are some bare spots that are more appropriate for models with landing gear. We will soon have a smoothed and sealed dirt runway.
