LSF InfoGuy Russo's report of his 8 hour slope flight At the July 11, 2002 meeting, a recommendation was made by Al Lies that club members participate in the Soaring Accomplishments Program of the League of Silent Flight. All members present agreed that this was a fine idea. One purpose of this page is to record the Level of Achievement of IEQF members. What is It?The Soaring Accomplishments Program consists of a list of tasks of progressively increasing difficulty which, when accomplished, demonstrate the advancing skills of the model sailplane pilot. A pilot begins at Level I (beginner) and can advance through Level V (Advanced). There are very few Level V pilots in the country. Why is IEQF Organizing an LSF Group?First the Program itself is a good idea. As we gain flying experience, our skills improve. The LSF Program provides goals for you to strive toward in advancing your flying skills. Without the LSF Program, we would have no adequate method to measure our increasing skills, outside of organized contests. Second, advancement in the LSF Program requires witnesses who can attest to your having completed the tasks. In some cases, the witnesses must have Level I or Level II status in the LSF. The organizing of an LSF group within the IEQF assures that any who are participating in the program will have ready access to willing and qualified witnesses. So What Do We Do?Club members can designate an LSF day, meaning simply that you let other members know that you plan to work on a particular LSF task and invite other members to join you, thus providing support and encouragement for all participants toward achieving the tasks, as well as assuring that there will be witnesses to document your achievements. Maybe you plan to go to Eagle Butte to work on your slope tasks, or maybe you've determined a good route for a goal and return task. Or maybe you really want to work on those Level II 1.5 meter spot landings. Let the members know via an email or other methods, and you are likely to get some takers. What is Required to Join? All that is required to participate in the Soaring Accomplishments Program is registration with LSF at a cost of $2.00.
